Top Botox Questions
1) What is Botox?
Botox cosmetic is FDA approved and contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum protein that when administered, relaxes the muscles for a more youthful, smooth look. Botox cosmetic improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet.
2) Who gets Botox and why?
Both men and women get Botox treatments to soften fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet. Areas treated with Botox include forehead, between the brows and crows feet. Botox can also be used to soften lines around the mouth, dimpling of the chin, and banding in the neck area. Botox is also used therapeutically to help improve clenching of jaw muscles, excessive underarm sweating and migraine headaches.
3) At what age should I start getting Botox?
Anyone over the age of 18 can get Botox. The earlier you start, the better, as Botox is used to prevent lines and wrinkles as we age if regular Botox treatments are received.
4) Will there be bleeding, swelling or bruising afterwards?
A Botox treatment can feel like a small pinch when injected. The injection site may swell like a small mosquito bite for approximately 10 minutes after injection with very minimal risk of bruising. This procedure is often called a “lunch time” service.
5) What if I don't like Botox?
Once you try it, you will love it! However, in the small chance you do not, Botox is not permanent, as it lasts approximately 3 to 4 months.
6) What happens if I stop getting Botox?
There are no side effects by stopping Botox. This procedure, when done regularly every 3 to 4 months, helps you to stay ahead of the aging game for a more youthful, refreshed look.
7) Do you do local anesthesia before injecting and will it hurt?
A topical lidocaine gel is applied a few minutes before treatment for superior comfort. Botox can sometimes feel like a small pinch where injected, however, with topical numbing, many patients feel nothing and remark, “That's it? I didn't feel a thing!”.
8) When will I see results?
Botox can take up to a full 14 days for full strength effect. Some patients will start to notice a softening of their fine lines and wrinkles by day 4 or 5.
9) Where can you put Botox?
Botox is used in numerous areas such as: forehead, between the brows, crows feet, around the mouth and chin, neck, jaw and underarms.
10) How does the injector know where to put the Botox?
Each Botox treatment is customized to patients individual muscle structure. Therefore, it is important you are being injected by someone who has experience, understands the face and muscle structure and has a keen aesthetic eye.
11) Will people know I got Botox?
No one will know you've had Botox unless you tell them. You will have a natural, refreshed look.
12) What if I am afraid of needles and how big are the needles?
The Botox is administered with tiny needles that you barely feel. Most patients close their eyes during the treatment and afterwards state they barely felt anything at all!

Among the most popular rejuvenation products available today, BOTOX® is in a class by itself. Unlike dermal fillers, which reduce wrinkles by adding volume beneath the skin and making skin appear tighter, BOTOX® treatments work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles to form in the first place. Learn more about BOTOX® by contacting our Edina office near the Minneapolis and Minnetonka areas.BOTOX® is most commonly applied to the forehead and around the eyes, where facial expressions etch deep vertical and horizontal creases over time. The serum is administered through a tiny needle into the specific muscle or muscles to be treated. Once injected, BOTOX® begins to block the signals that trigger muscle contraction, causing the muscles to remain relaxed and the overlying skin to become softened and smooth.Administration of the serum only takes a few minutes and it begins to work immediately, with results becoming progressively more noticeable over the next two weeks. Another benefit, for many, is the subtlety of the improvement. While surgery generally results in a significant change in appearance, a BOTOX® treatment provides just enough enhancement to be noticeable, but not so much that people will suspect a cosmetic procedure has been performed. Results from BOTOX® treatment are temporary, but will usually last for at least three to four months. Repeat treatments at appropriate intervals can keep skin smooth over the long term.
For many people, lines and wrinkles on facial skin are prominent enough to be bothersome, but not severe enough to warrant surgery such as a face lift.
